The Republican Chairman of the Senate Senate Committee on Veterans’ Affairs seeks talented health care PSM to join a high-performing policy & legislative team. Duties include: issue/policy analysis; researching, drafting and advancing legislation; planning and conducting hearings; staffing Chairman in meetings and hearings; sustained, effective oversight of the Department of Veterans Affairs; briefing Senators and their staffs; engaging with senior executive branch officials; synthesizing complex information into concise essentials for a non-expert audience; advocating for a thoughtful position or policy outcome; and building win-win relationships with stakeholders, both internal and external. Successful candidates will be: analytical, tenacious, and truly collaborative. Must be able to develop and execute thoughtful strategies to achieve legislative and oversight priorities. Communication skills required to be top notch: issue briefs must be focused, on-point and incisive (brevity demanded, wit encouraged). Ultimately, candidate must: achieve strong, positive outcomes for veterans in a dynamic, ego-free, and bipartisan environment. Policy areas: seeking a candidate with significant health care or health care policy background, gained through either advanced professional education or practical experience, or both. Assigned issue areas would likely include: veterans’ health, military health, women’s health, mental health, rural health, health care quality, health care access, telemedicine/technology, and innovation in health care. This is not an entry level position. Military service, and/or a demonstrated passion for veterans’ policy/issues, is strongly preferred.
